[00:00:00] The subject of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is one of those supernatural realms of walking in the Holy Spirit through many years I've been reading books by many authors who have written on this subject Some of the most helpful books were written by my dear friend Kenneth Hagin Joyce Meyer has also written helpful material on the gifts of the Spirit and I've recently been studying what she wrote and
[00:00:25] And most important we're talking about the Holy Spirit not just some any spirit and the most controversy of all these gifts Is probably the gift of speaking in tongues for the Bible says in first Corinthians 12 To one is given various kinds of unknown tongues And I want to quote what Joyce Meyer has written here Believers in some segments of the body of Christ are known for operating in the gifts of the Spirit
[00:00:53] Perhaps more than those from other spiritual backgrounds Some church groups teach on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit regularly And see the operation of the gifts frequently While some don't teach on them or even believe they're available for Christians today These gifts are clearly part of Scripture and should be studied and sought by all believers in Jesus Christ Speaking in tongues is speaking in a supernatural language
[00:01:20] One that God understands but the speakers and others may not It's usual for private prayer and communion with God And it's beneficial in corporate settings But it must be then accompanied by the supernatural spiritual gift of interpretation Ignoring the gifts of the Spirit may close the door to excesses and abuses of this gift But they do not take place at times but also close the door
[00:01:47] To countless blessings of people desperately need this in their daily lives And here's what Joyce says I have to say as Paul did in 1 Corinthians 14-18 That I'm glad I speak in tongues And I thank God for this gift I speak in tongues a lot because it strengthens me spiritually It increases my intimacy with God And enables me to hear his voice more clearly Clearly Paul spoke in tongues
[00:02:16] The 120 disciples who were filled with the Holy Spirit On the day of Pentecost all spoke with other tongues Other believers who received the baptism of the Holy Spirit As recorded in the book of Acts spoke in tongues Why shouldn't you and I operate in this gift of the Spirit? So be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit And never have a closed mind of learning new things Well that's a good word that I'll begin here with by Joyce Meyer
[00:02:46] And you know when I was just a young man Entered full-time ministry when I was just 19 I had gone two years to college One to a Baptist college for the first year And the second year to an Assemblies of God Bible College But in those two years I never heard one lesson taught On the gifts of the Spirit So I was quite ignorant entirely of this wonderful truth
[00:03:14] When I first began to travel with William Freeman Now he was one astounding man of God He had been just an ordinary railroad brakeman And then got born again And after that was called to preach the gospel He became pastor of a small church there in California And after some time he felt God nudged him That he should resign from his church And give himself full-time to ministry
[00:03:44] And it was one of the most tremendous stories To my understanding how this man heard from God He made a decision that he would devote eight hours a day In communion with God Even as he had worked eight hours a day on the railroad Now I never know exactly how long he maintained this discipline But it was evident that he was a mighty man of prayer When I joined him
[00:04:10] Now I was so delighted to have the input from his life About the gifts of the Holy Spirit He had, to me, until that time been a foreign subject And William Freeman had one of the most dynamic visitations of God I'd ever heard I heard him share it many times You know, because I traveled with him for five solid years And it was a learning experience all the time To have this man as my mentor
[00:04:39] On the gifts of the Holy Spirit You see, he had been visited by God Through a supernatural visitation One evening in his church He was on his face on the carpet Simply praying When suddenly the room There had not been lights turned on as yet He suddenly had illumined with a bright light And he looked up And there stood a man And the man simply said to him I am an angel of the Lord
[00:05:08] Sent by God to give you a gift of healing You are to go and stretch forth your hand To bring healing to the people If you can get them to only believe Not one thing will stand before you Not even cancer There is a great sleeping and slumbering in the land There must be an awakening Because Jesus is coming soon Well, that was the message he received that day It changed his whole life And changed the future of his ministry
[00:05:37] It was an awesome gifting Many times in those five years I worked with him In great crusades He would often emphasize his gratitude to what God had done Now his visitation of the angel didn't supersede The authority of God's written word But he was very aware of what this visitation had meant I can so well remember in those great prayer lines
[00:06:06] Where thousands of people would come In a great crusade Sometimes he would be encountered with a very difficult Situation for healing Perhaps someone who was hopelessly afflicted And so often he would simply Lift his heart up and his voice up And say Lord, I remember that which you've spoken to me Said and told me He always wanted to remind God
[00:06:33] That he was aware of the visitation of the angel And the manifestation of the gifts of healing That was a great experience to see And now some people would ask me When they heard him speak Rather a quick word He would say Lord, I remember that which you've spoken to me Said and told me Some thought he was saying What did he speak in San Antonio? Well, he wasn't saying San Antonio at all
[00:07:00] He simply had three verbs in one sentence I remember that which you've spoken to me Said and told me Well, it was a simple way of expressing his gratitude And he would submit to the Lord And well, the evidence was so great So I learned a great deal About the gifts of the Holy Spirit Through what my work with William Freeman A mighty visitation had been And it was always a constant influence
[00:07:29] Now, when I worked with him those years It became my responsibility After he had preached a strong salvation message And led hundreds to Christ I would stand at the microphone and say Now it's time for Brother Freeman To pray for the healing of the sick He wants to pray, first of all For those with outward afflictions That when you're healed People will see and know What the Lord has done And I would call for those Who were deaf, blind, crippled
[00:07:58] Outstanding afflictions That when a healing was manifested All could see and rejoice and praise God And then he would go down Before these people And that's when he had A second gifting of the Spirit That was manifest And that was discerning his spirits It was not discerning people It was discerning spirits within them And he was always perceptive By the Holy Spirit By this gift of discerning his spirits
[00:08:25] To know who was ready for a healing And who was not And he would then say to them Very thoughtfully Please wait to another time When I will pray for you And he would then usher Those people whom he witnessed That they were ready for a miracle And the ushers would take them To the platform And there would be Maybe as many as 25 people Ushered there on the platform And he would pray for them One by one
[00:08:55] And then demonstrate What God had done The blind who received sight It didn't happen all the time But it happened very frequently However, the deaf Almost always received their hearing And those with no sense of taste or smell Was always evidence That they could then clearly Smell and taste And then there would be Those manifestations Of people's crippled limbs Being healed And to me It was an education
[00:09:23] In the supernatural power of God Working with that man And for those years What a delight What a blessing It proved to be in my own life And I'm so grateful That God permitted me To have those five years Traveling with Living with Working with this man of God And how his life Was so touched by God's Spirit Now, I mentioned about That the angel of the Lord Said to him That he'd given to him A gift of healing
[00:09:52] And the Bible says In 1 Corinthians 12 9 To another Is given the gift of healing Which means Extraordinary powers Anointed by the Holy Spirit Now, the gifts of healing Work with the gift of faith Although all believers Are encouraged To pray for the sick And see them recover According to Mark 16 And 18 These signs Shall follow them That believe They shall lay hands On the sick And they shall recover However, this gift
[00:10:22] Of healing The Holy Spirit Distributes this Extraordinary gift To people Just as he gives Other spiritual gifts To certain people Now, in those years Of traveling Often the crowds Were enormous He had a big tent Seating 10,000 people And often that tent Would be filled With people Why? Because God Was manifesting his power Through the instruments Of a man of God And there were many Wonderful healing
[00:10:51] I would receive Stacks of testimonies As the editor Of his magazine And I'd receive reports Of confirmed Physical healings Confirmations Even by medical doctors This would happen Over those five years Repeatedly And the prayer Of faith During those meetings And thank God It would happen God was working For when a person Receives healing Through a spiritual gift That healing May not be evident Immediately
[00:11:20] Healing can be a process That works Somewhat like medicine It is necessary To receive it by faith And believe it is working The results Often become visible later I often encourage people To say The healing power Of God Is working in me Right now How about that Speak that affirmation The healing power Of God Is working In me Right now Yes We should trust God In this area For our health And I thank God For doctors
[00:11:49] Of course And I thank God For medicine When we need it But I want to Emphasize That Jesus Is our great physician He's the greater physician As a matter of fact And God Is our spiritual Wonderful physician By his grace And his word Is our medicine So you can Ask God To heal you And there may be The manifestation Of this Gifts of the Holy Spirit Well I will continue To share with you On this subject Father I pray
