[00:00:00] Proverbs 6 verse 2, you are snared by the words of your mouth, you are taken captive by the words of your mouth.
[00:00:09] And this is something God has spoken in my heart in a fresh way, that every time you tell people about your lack, you have more lack.
[00:00:18] This is a Bible factor. And every time you tell people about your sickness, you grow worse.
[00:00:25] And every time you speak and confess your weakness, you become weaker.
[00:00:30] Well, this day I want to challenge you to overcome that negative speech habit and not be snared by the words of your mouth, taken into captivity by speaking God's word.
[00:00:42] I'm continuing to share with you about the mighty workings of God through the century, 20th century, now the 21st century.
[00:00:53] What a delight it's been to witness what God has done.
[00:00:57] And I want to tell you about a lady whom God used to raise up a mighty work.
[00:01:03] Her name was Maria Woodworth Eder. Maria Woodworth Eder.
[00:01:09] She was an outstanding evangelist and she was one of those early 20th century people whom God used to operate in such power of the Holy Spirit
[00:01:19] that thousands came to her meetings in the days when perhaps several hundred people constituted the crowd.
[00:01:27] Maria paved the way for women in ministry, it seems, for she was followed by Amy Semple McPherson, Catherine Kuhlman, and others.
[00:01:36] Maria was born in Lisbon, Ohio, and she was converted and baptized at age 13.
[00:01:45] And then she was called to the ministry.
[00:01:48] Well, what a ministry it was!
[00:01:50] She could not overcome, however, the fear of public opinion enough to answer the call for a number of years.
[00:01:57] She let the fear of man, the fear of man's opinions, keep her from being in the ministry for a long period.
[00:02:04] But, however, at age 36, Maria began to hold meetings.
[00:02:10] She first preached under the umbrella of the United Brethren, although her roots was with the Methodist Holiness, and then with the churches of God.
[00:02:20] Maria began holding a special crusade in Dallas, Texas, for F.F. Bosworth.
[00:02:27] Incidentally, F.F. Bosworth was a personal friend of mine, and he was a mighty man of God.
[00:02:34] Well, Maria, when she went to Dallas, it was her transition from her natural timidity, but energized by the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.
[00:02:47] She particularly shared about divine healing and how the power of the Spirit of God would be manifest.
[00:02:54] Maria, although she was nearly 70 years old when she did that crusade in Dallas, her reputation gave her great credibility.
[00:03:07] And her crusades in many, very many cities would last for months.
[00:03:13] Think about that.
[00:03:13] I know when I worked with William Freeman, we'd go to a city like Chicago or Los Angeles or San Francisco or St. Louis or other cities, and the crusades would last for weeks and weeks.
[00:03:26] And that was somewhat the characteristic of Maria Woodworth Eder.
[00:03:30] Her crusades would last for months.
[00:03:32] And, of course, she was labeled as different.
[00:03:35] And she grew much criticism from the church world and from the secular world.
[00:03:41] However, Maria, despite the cynical newspaper stories and attempts to even one time have her institutionalized,
[00:03:50] she continued to evangelize, and God used her and her books were used by God to share the conversion to Christ and spiritual experiences and about the healing of the power of God.
[00:04:06] Maria believed her meetings, even in the south of the United States, should be interracial.
[00:04:14] And she was one of those brave people who, back when racial prejudice was so intense,
[00:04:21] she made it very clear that her meetings were to be interracial, that blacks and white alike were welcome.
[00:04:28] And then, after beginning this ministry of praying for the sick, it was then God began to anoint her ministry with a greater way.
[00:04:38] Many miraculous healings of those with cancer and tuberculosis were healed instantly.
[00:04:43] Lame people walked in the blind room made to see these are bona fide results.
[00:04:49] And she constantly emphasized, she said, I'm not the personal power of God.
[00:04:55] It's the Holy Spirit that I have that enables me to be used by God for those healings and miracles to be possible.
[00:05:02] And so it was that Maria continued this unique ministry by God's anointing.
[00:05:09] And Maria Woodworth Eder, what a beautiful name.
[00:05:13] She was one of the first ten evangelists back in the 20th century.
[00:05:17] And she owned a tent that would seat 8,000 people.
[00:05:22] But many times her tent would not hold the crowds.
[00:05:27] It was often estimated crowds of over 20,000 would come to her meetings.
[00:05:32] I'm talking about a lady perhaps you've never heard of before, but she's very renowned in God's history book.
[00:05:38] She continued to have an impact upon the world revival until her later years,
[00:05:44] as she finally settled down and established a church in Indianapolis and is now still in existence called Lakeview Christian Center.
[00:05:54] Maria's participation in that church helped establish the prerogative of women to minister from the sanctuary pulpit
[00:06:02] and foreshadowed the increasing role of women in leadership positions.
[00:06:07] So I've shared with you about how God can use men as well as women.
[00:06:13] And I believe that God wants to impress this upon your heart today as I share with you the accounts.
[00:06:21] I'm going to look forward to sharing all 12 of these different individuals how that Acts 10 38 was fulfilled.
[00:06:31] What does Acts 10 38 say?
[00:06:33] Well, listen to it.
[00:06:34] How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power,
[00:06:39] who went about doing good, healing all oppressed of the devil for God is with him.
[00:06:45] Now, of these people with whom I have had interaction,
[00:06:50] one of the ones primarily I had limited access to was Catherine Kuhlman.
[00:06:57] Now, my interaction with her was the fact that I was the Canadian coordinator for the World Conference on the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem
[00:07:05] in two different years where Catherine was the main speaker.
[00:07:10] And let me just tell you about my interaction with Catherine.
[00:07:14] One thing I admire so much about how she would meet God with such fervency.
[00:07:19] Before she would step forth to meet the crowd, the minister,
[00:07:24] she would be back in prayer crying out,
[00:07:28] Oh, Holy Spirit, can you trust me just one more time?
[00:07:33] What an appealing prayer it was.
[00:07:35] Oh, Holy Spirit, can you trust me just one more time?
[00:07:42] Catherine knew that if she allowed pride to get in her heart,
[00:07:45] or if she allowed any other wrong attitude,
[00:07:48] it would hinder the ability of the Holy Spirit to work and flow.
[00:07:52] And she would meet God in that fervent prayer.
[00:07:55] What a heart cry it was.
[00:07:57] Oh, Holy Spirit, can you trust me just one more time?
[00:08:03] Well, let me tell you a bit about Catherine, the information I've learned about her.
[00:08:08] She was one of the most respected of the evangelists in the past 20th century.
[00:08:14] She had been saved at age 13.
[00:08:17] She was called to preach when she was 16.
[00:08:19] And she dropped out of high school and began her own ministry with her sister and her sister's husband.
[00:08:28] Catherine's message was radically transforming.
[00:08:31] And she was filled with the Holy Spirit.
[00:08:34] And the Lord began to use her in many different ways that were so overwhelming.
[00:08:40] Catherine was compelled to preach the grace of God and to experience the indwelling of the Spirit.
[00:08:46] As she preached about the power of the Holy Spirit,
[00:08:50] people of her audiences began reporting miraculous healings.
[00:08:54] Rather than take her experience to the healing tent, as most of the revival evangelists had done,
[00:09:00] Catherine recognized that her own calling was significantly different.
[00:09:04] And while most of the evangelists were pastors, perhaps,
[00:09:07] called from local churches to become traveling evangelists,
[00:09:11] Catherine moved from a traveling ministry to establish a church in Franklin, Pennsylvania.
[00:09:17] However, she continued to be used by God.
[00:09:20] And her calling was a result of a wonderful working of the Spirit.
[00:09:25] Now, if you ever were in a Catherine Kuhlman meeting,
[00:09:28] as I had the opportunity again and again,
[00:09:31] especially there in Jerusalem those years,
[00:09:34] you would observe miraculous healings taking place all over the audience.
[00:09:39] It was usually just by a spoken word of faith or a word of prophetic utterance.
[00:09:44] And God gave unusual favor with her to attract those thousands of people.
[00:09:50] I remember the great auditorium in Jerusalem where we had those meetings those years.
[00:09:55] It had over 5,000 people packing the place.
[00:09:59] They were there to receive from the Lord's anointing upon this woman whom God has set apart to do good.
[00:10:06] And her crusades were so unusual.
[00:10:09] When the healing miracles reported, she would always insist that doctors would verify the reports.
[00:10:17] And her crusades were marked by such integrity and honesty.
[00:10:21] And she understood her calling and how to express the gifts of God with a remarkable way.
[00:10:28] Well, I'm so grateful that I know other people were skeptical about Catherine's ministry.
[00:10:36] But that doesn't change anything.
[00:10:38] She was different for sure.
[00:10:40] But the great power of the Holy Spirit channeled through her to minister healing,
[00:10:45] to do good to those oppressed.
[00:10:47] And then her humility to give God all the praise was so undeniable.
[00:10:53] And I praise God for the fact that he enabled me to have a brief interaction with Catherine.
[00:10:58] Now, I'm not testifying that I was somebody closely intimate with her life.
[00:11:03] I was not.
[00:11:04] But I was a part of the great crusades where she was minister and I was on the platform for some of those great events.
[00:11:13] I praise God that Catherine, who continued to be used by the Lord in such unusual ways.
[00:11:20] And I thank God for the memory I have of Catherine.
[00:11:24] Father, how I thank you for Catherine Kuhlman.
[00:11:27] Thank you, Lord, for the way she was used by you.
[00:11:30] And I pray you touch the hearts of precious people who have a longing, Lord,
[00:11:35] to be anointed by the power of your Holy Spirit to do good,
[00:11:39] to minister healing to the sick and deliverance in Jesus' name.
[00:11:44] Father, let it be a mighty working of your own Holy Spirit.
[00:11:49] And I shall praise you, Lord.
[00:11:52] Amen and amen.
[00:11:54] My beloved friend, join me now from a heart of adoration.
[00:12:00] Join me as we simply honor our precious Lord.
[00:12:04] We're going to take a praise break.
[00:12:05] We're going to a break from fear and anxiety.
[00:12:08] We're going to a break from oppression to the devil.
[00:12:11] And we're going to rise up to receive.
[00:12:14] Praise you, Lord.
[00:12:16] Praise you, Lord.
[00:12:18] Praise you, Lord!
[00:12:22] Praise you, Lord!
[00:12:24] Praise you, Lord!
[00:12:26] Praise you, Lord!
[00:12:28] Praise you, Lord!
[00:12:30] Praise you, Lord!
[00:12:34] Hallelujah!

[00:12:35] Thank you.
